About iPhone Unlocking

When hacking the iPhone there are two categories to worry about. The iPhone is essentially a computer with a GSM modem attached to it. So there is the Operating System for the computer half of the phone and the Baseband is like the OS for the Modem half.

When Hackers start to crack the iPhone the first thing they usually hack is the OS, by finding a method to Activate and Jailbreak the phone. All this means is that they've found a way into the OS and gained read/write accesss to the file system. This is fine if all you want to do is use tour iPhone as an iPod Touch. If, however, you want to make and receive calls you must also hack the modem. This requires hacking the Baseband so that it will accept non-AT&T SIM cards, this process is known as unlocking.

Adobe Flash on iPhone

It was made known today that Adobe Flash would be coming to the iPhone soon. This was made clear by the Sr. Director of Adobe Systems, however, it is up to Apple when Flash will actually appear on the device.

We’ve also learned that Flash for the iPhone will be a closed platform and that once Apple decides it’s go time, we will see a Flash player for the mobile phone very soon. This will mean that websites designed in Flash will be available for viewing on the iPhone. This has been one of the biggest complaint’s regarding what the device lacks.

However, since most mobile phones do not have very speedy processors, Flash may seriously bog down the iPhone’s performance. But, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how it handles with some of the more Flash-intensive sites out there.

Exiting DFU Without Restoring

While in DFU, hold the power button for 30-60 seconds. When I have tested it, it has varied, so I don't know an exact length of time to hold it. Note that sometimes if you do this, when the device reboots from DFU, it will go into recovery mode for reasons unknown.

Easy SMS backup from iPhone

The iPhone stores SMS, Recent Calls, Address book Contacts etc. In SQLite v3 (".db" ,".sqlitedb") file format!

So you can easily backup this data by transferring files to a computer (Your phone must be jailbroken in order to access root directory using SSH). You can also read these files by using SQLite Analyzer (Windows platform). Below you can find the location of these files

/User/AddressBook/AddressBook.sqlitedb
/User/AddressBook/AddressBookImages.sqlitedb
/User/CallHistory/call_history.db
/User/SMS/sms.db

Instructions on "How to access the iPhone using SSH" and "How to use .db files" will be available soon.

iPhone Thermal Monitor

According to Apple, the iPhone can determine if it's too hot and shut down the phone to cool down the device!!
Also, when I was surfing iPhone SystemConfiguration files through SSH connection, I found a very amazing file named "ThermalMonitor.bundle"! What does this mean?
I guess the iPhone has an built-in thermometer that can determine the temperature of the device! Does any one know anything about it?????

Some idea for the new iPhone OS

  • By double tapping on a message balloon the message rotates to its back! and show information about the message such as delivery status, sent/receive date and time, From To, Subject (MMS), and a button named “FW this SMS” (You can click on this to forward the message to someone else).
  • Messages balloon background color changed according to message delivery status (Red: Failed, Green: Delivered, Blue: Pending, Gray: when delivery reports sets to off in the setting menu)
  • Random icon placement (Shaking the device when it's in icon arrangement mode causes random icon placement) you can also lock some icons to remain in the same positions.
  • Guest Mode (As we know the iPhone is an amazing device! So it must have a Guest Mode for demonstrating the device to others! By using this function all user data is hidden (such as Text messages, Emails, Contacts, …) and fake data are shown for demonstrating device!).
  • Ability to send files between two iPhone

Microsoft's 'I'm a PC' ad images made on Macs

Several digital images that Microsoft Corp. has posted on its Web site to trumpet its new "I'm a PC" advertising campaign were actually created on Macs, according to the files' originating-software stamp.

Four of the images that Microsoft made available on its PressPass site today display the designation "Adobe Photoshop C3 Macintosh" when their file properties are examined. The images appear to be frames from the television ads that Microsoft will launch later today.

One of the images is of a real Microsoft engineer, identified only as "Sean," who resembles John Hodgman, the actor who plays the PC character in Apple Inc.'s iconic ads. Reportedly, Microsoft will play off Apple's own campaign -- during which Hodgman introduces himself with the line, "Hello, I'm a PC" -- with its engineer saying "Hello, I'm a PC, and I've been made into a stereotype."

Other images posted by Microsoft today include shots of author Deepak Chopra; Canadian adventurer and educator Geoff Green, founder of Students on Ice Expeditions; and a shark-surrounded diver named "Meaghan."

Not all of the images on the PressPass site were generated on Macs. The sample print ads, which highlight the campaign's "Life Without Walls" slogan, were produced using the Windows version of Adobe Photoshop, according to their files.

The originating software and platform can be found in downloaded versions of the files using built-in tools on either a Mac running Mac OS X or on a PC running Windows.

In Windows XP, for instance, users can view the tag by right-clicking the downloaded file, selecting Properties from the drop-down menu, then clicking the Summary tab. "Adobe Photoshop CS3 Macintosh" appears beside "Creation Software."

On a Mac, after opening the downloaded file in Preview, users can see the tag by choosing Inspector from the Tools menu, clicking on the middle More Info tab, then clicking on the tab marked TIFF. "Adobe Photoshop CS3 Macintosh" appears beside "Software."

Microsoft's campaign is the creation of the Crispin Porter + Bogusky ad agency as part of a $300 million effort to revamp Windows Vista's reputation.

Unlocked iPhone Voice mail

If you have successfully unlocked your iPhone, you may have discovered already that the voicemail button doesn't do anything at all. It won't give you visual voicemail, but you can easily get the voicemail button to work using any carrier following these steps:

  1. First, take note of what your voicemail number is with your current provider (for example, in Iran the MTN Irancell voicemail number is 100).
  2. Click on the phone button in your iPhone.
  3. Click on the keypad tab.
  4. Tap the following code: *5005*86*xxx# (The xxx is the voicemail number, for example *5005*86*100#)
  5. Tap call.
  6. After a second, the code will have been set.
  7. Tap now on the voicemail button and it will automatically call your usual voicemail service.

Veency Remote Desktop Server for iPhone

Saurik has released Veency, a remote desktop server for your iPhone..

Veency allows you to access your iPhone via any Mac or PC. You can then view your Springboard and access other applications through your computer.

Currently there is no password or toggle for the server; however, these features are planned in the future.

If your device has ever been just out of reach, this package is for you: you'll never need to touch your iPhone or iPod Touch again! Instead, sit back and enjoy the comfort of remotely logging into your phone via VNC. You can view the screen, touch controls, and even push the lock and menu buttons all from the comfort of your desk or laptop.

To activate, simply install it. When connections come in you will get a notification dialog asking if you want to accept. You can tell if there are any actice clients by way of an icon on the status bar. Just remember VNC is not a very fast protocol.
